Seven Codex Features Worth Knowing, Even on the Free Tier: From Browser Control to Phone Access

With Fable 5's return generating a lot of buzz around Claude Code, this creator -- whose main tool is Codex and whose audience skews toward non-paying users -- revisits seven useful Codex features that make it worth using even for free. For anyone who's never touched an AI agent at all, the advice is simple: whether it's Codex or something else, start using one as soon as possible.

For anyone able to spend around $20/month, though, the creator strongly recommends paying for Claude just this month to try Fable 5 through Claude Code instead.

Granting Codex browser-control permission lets it autonomously browse sites like price-comparison pages, research good options, and bring the findings back to you. Each time it requests permission and gets approved, it demonstrates switching pages and scanning listings on its own. Similar techniques could apply to entering spreadsheet data into a website, or feeding data into scheduled social media posts.

Tapping the phone icon next to the account icon displays a QR code; scanning it lets you operate Codex from your phone, where a list of projects and chats appears, letting you check on and direct tasks even while away from your desk.

Near the end, the creator shows off a game built with Fable 5 that's being distributed for free at a booth.
