GLM 5.2 Lands and the Claude Fable 5 Ban Stops Mattering — Plus the Anthropic Lawsuit

Last week the US restricted access to Claude Fable 5 — the model widely treated as the strongest in the world — for anyone outside America. This week China's Z.ai released GLM 5.2, a model with comparable capability that anyone can download for free, run on their own laptop, and use without any government being able to restrict them. Two governments, two policies, one news cycle.

The second story is Anthropic's. A user figured out that Claude's actual usage limits don't match what was advertised — they burn through faster than what people are paying for. A lawsuit followed. The video author flags this as something Claude Pro and Max subscribers should check on their own accounts this week.

On the product side, Anthropic isn't only defending. Claude Design got a significant push toward production use. Point it at an existing website or design file and it picks up your colours, fonts, and overall style on its own — no manual reconstruction. The new editing model lets you click anything on the canvas and move, resize, or align it directly, without prompting for every tweak.

Claude Design and Claude Code now move work back and forth, so the design-to-implementation round trip actually closes. Exports cover PDF and PowerPoint, and a direct send into Replit means a natural-language prompt — 'design a sleek skincare shopping app called Luna' — can become a real running app in one flow.

The point of GLM 5.2 is local execution. Ollama lets you download the full model to your laptop and run inference entirely on your hardware. Nothing — prompts, data, outputs — leaves your machine. For workloads blocked on data sovereignty or privacy, that's a structural change, not a marginal one.

The caveats are real. The model is huge and you'll need a genuinely powerful PC to run it. And the 'Nvidia gives GLM away free' rumour is half true — Nvidia's free tier is currently GLM 5.1, not 5.2 yet. Still, the larger picture is unambiguous: a year ago this level of polish required paying for the most expensive frontier model on the planet. Today a free open model matches it. If cost was the wall stopping you from building, the wall has come down.
