This Week in AI: Fable 5 Ban, Siri-Gemini Deal, Kimi K 2.7 and Figma

The video's opening headline is that the US government forced Anthropic to halt all access for foreign nationals to its flagship model, Claude Fable 5, and its research variant, Mythos 5. The reason given was national security, and the event is framed as the first time authorities have explicitly stopped the international release of a specific AI model.

As a result, engineers building in Mumbai and non-US nationals living in San Francisco were both cut off from what the host describes as the most powerful model on Earth. The speed of the move, a full shutdown within three days of the announcement, is emphasized as part of what shocked the industry.

Another major story this week is the report that the new Siri is being rebuilt on top of Google Gemini rather than Apple's own foundation model stack. Under the arrangement, Apple would pay Google roughly $1 billion per year and then layer its own "Apple Foundation Models" on top.

The estimate for building the same arrangement around Anthropic's "Claude 2" was reportedly $1.5 billion per year, giving Google the edge on price. Apple, for its part, is stressing a mix of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, with a trust strategy centered on the claim that user data is not stored by Apple or third parties and can be externally audited.

On the tools side, Figma rolled out a feature that turns pasted images into editable designs through a chat instruction. The workflow of exporting assets, sending them to Canva, and then making final adjustments is now close to a one-click pipeline.

Among coding models, Kimi K 2.7 code was tested against Kimi K 2.6, GPT 5.5, and Claude Opus 4.8, and was rated best at generating scientifically grounded visuals, especially realistic water-wave physics. The previous-generation Kimi K 2.6 reportedly struggled with physically accurate motion, so this is presented as a sign that Kimi is emerging not just as a general-purpose AI but as a strong visualization-oriented agent.
